Directing the joint committee on government and finance to make
a study on the truancy diversion social work program.
Whereas, The truancy diversion social work program was
successfully piloted in Mineral county in 1995, and has since
been expanded to forty-nine counties; and
Whereas, The truancy diversion social work program is an
early intervention program to improve school attendance by
addressing the underlying difficulties within families that lead
to truancy; and
Whereas, a random sample of the data reported for the 2000-
2001 school year indicated that more than 85% of the students
served by the truancy diversion social work program improved
their attendance rates and more than 65% maintained or improved
their grade point average; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the joint committee on government and finance is hereby
directed to make a study on the truancy diversion social work
program; and be it
Further Resolved, That the said joint committee on
government and finance shall conduct the study and prepare a
report of its findings, conclusions and recommendations together
with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its
recommendations; and be it
Further Resolved, That the joint committee on government and
finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2002,
on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with
drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its
recommendations; and be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct
this study, to prepare a report and draft necessary legislation
be paid from legislative appropriations to the joint committee on
government and finance.
